Originating in 1970, Emerson, Lake & Palmer (ELP) were pioneers of progressive rock and one of the first super-groups in the rock genre. As giants of progressive rock, they expanded the audience for the genre from hundreds of thousands to tens of millions and became one of the most commercially successful rock bands of the 1970s. Their first seven album releases all achieved top 10 status in the U.K. albums chart and top 20 in the U.S.

The band's fifth studio album, Works Volume 1, was originally released as a double LP in 1977. Now, it has been expertly remastered for the first time in 24 bit / High Density formats from the original tapes and reissued as a 2LP set. The album consists of three solo band member LP sides, with the fourth showcasing the entire group.
