ELP, formed in 1970, were torchbearers of the progressive rock sound and one of rock’s first super-groups. They helped to broaden the audience for the genre from hundreds of thousands into tens of millions and were one of the most commercially successful rock bands of the 1970s, achieving global sales of over 40 million albums. Their first 7 album releases all made the U.K. albums chart top 10 and the U.S. top 20.
In 1974, ELP released the groundbreaking, first triple-vinyl live rock album, ‘Welcome back, my friends, to the show that never ends~ Ladies and Gentlemen’. Recorded during the 1973/1974 ‘Someone Get Me a Ladder’ world tour, the adrenalin-fuelled live recordings capture the group at its creative best and reached No.5 in the U.K and No.4 in the U.S.
ELP’s elaborate stage shows involved 40 tons of equipment and 140 road crew, featuring Keith Emerson on a flying piano and Carl Palmer’s revolving, 2-ton stainless steel drum kit. The 2-CD release is a new 24/96 2016 remaster of the original 1974 release from the master tapes, while the LP is a 2016 new remaster of the original album with the original artwork faithfully reproduced and a foreword on 140 gsm LP format by Greg Lake.
Both the 2-CD and LP releases are produced in association with Emerson, Lake & Palmer and management. The 2-CD booklet contains extensive liner notes with new band interviews by legendary rock journalist Chris Welch, and the audio was remastered by world-renowned rock studio engineer Andy Pearce. This is the first release of MFiT and HD digital versions of the original album.
